knit/lab/mercato dei fiori
this photo © crocodile
A colorful triangle combining stranded and lace knitting. The stranding is done back and forth and is worked quite loosely to create a more open texture than normal. The stranding features small flower motifs and petal-like stripes in the outer border. It is a good project for being creative with your favourite colors. I’ve called it Mercato dei Fiori (flower market) after a Patti Pravo song I first heard when I lived in Italy.
Suggested needle size 4mm/US6.
Finished dimensions after blocking approx. 110cm/43in x 55cm/21.5in.
The blue version above was knit by crocodile on 5mm/US8 needles with Rowan Pure Wool 4Ply, Indigo 330m/360yds, Port 13m/15yds, Raspberry 15m/17yds, Powder 17/19yds, Kiss 40m/45yds, Hyacinth 36m/40yds.
Finished dimensions after blocking: approx. 130cm/51in x 62cm/24.5in
The black version below was knit on 3.25mm/US3 needles with Black MC, Kiss for the flowers, Navy and Shale stripes, Kiss for chart D, and Framboise for the last WS row of chart D and the bind off.

The pdf contains short written instructions, and charts for the stranded and lace sections. Familiarity with back & forth stranding with multiple increases is a must for this pattern!
