An extravagant lace shawl inspired by the wild colors
of German Expressionist paintings, in particular the work of
Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. This inventive lace pattern combines stacked
centered quadruple decreases with yarn over increases - and looks a bit like
feathers and/or melting paint. Once the decreasing technique is learned it’s a very easy, readily memorizable knit.
The sample shawl was knit on 5mm/US8 needles with approximately 765yds/700m of Lang Yarns Jawoll Magic 6ply superwash 75% wool/ 25% nylon, colorway 0053 rainbow
Dimensions: approximately 72in/180cm long by 22in/56cm wide.
The pattern is fully written out with an explanation of the stacked decrease technique, and no chart!
Ernst Ludwig is also available as part of the knit/lab Stacked Stitches volume 2 and knit/lab Easy Patterns eBooks.
