knit/lab/caribbean
A hand crafted scarf, shawl or wrap pattern inspired by Caribbean colors and brightly painted houses. The decorative motif is formed by a fusion of stacked stitches, short rows and stranded knitting.
Knit on 3.25mm/US3 needles with approximately 200g/920yds/840m of Jamieson's of Shetland Spindrift.
Dimensions: approximately 147cm/58ins by 43cm/17ins
Gauge: approximately 20 stitches and 25 rows = 10cm/4in in pattern
When blocked, the scarf has slightly undulating edges, and a slightly ridged and irregular three dimensional surface. The pattern can be used for a variety of projects from a scarf to a shawl, afghan or cushion cover.
The color groups used in the sample are Emerald, Scarlet/Fuschia/Plum, Violet/Royal, Mimosa, Splash/Caspian, Mantilla/Zodiac, Pumpkin.
The CC in the stranded rows is mostly Buttermilk, with small amounts of different colors added to create gradient effects. There’s plenty of scope to be creative with color here!
Techniques include short rows, wrap & turn, stacked stitches, and stranded knitting. This is a written pattern with notes on techniques and a phototutorial on splicing yarn ends.
Caribbean is also available as part of the knit/lab Stacked Stitches volume 2 eBook.
