knit/lab/shetland crescent
This shawl was inspired by the range of natural shades of Jamieson & Smith‘s Shetland Supreme 2 Ply Lace yarn.
I wanted to combine modern simplicity with this beautiful traditional yarn.
The pattern begins with one stitch and expands with alternating bands of stocking stitch and simple lace knitting. The shape is a shallow crescent with increases at the center and along the sides. The gradation of colors through the repetitions of the simple lace motif reminds me of the subtle markings of seashells and feathers.
The shawl is designed to be worn asymmetrically, with the central increases draped over one shoulder and the tapering points thrown over the other.
Dimensions: 38cm/15in deep at center back, 145cm/57in maximum width.
Yarn requirements: 1 ball (25g, 200m/219 yards) each of black, grey, fawn & white.
Knit mainly with 3.25mm/US 3 needle, white border knit with 3.5mm/US 4 needle, BO with 5mm/US 8 needle.
